Community Guidelines
Last updated: 29 August 2026
Ceylon Chat is a place to connect with friends, share moments, buy and sell locally, and build community. These Community Guidelines apply to everything you do on the Service — posts, comments, reactions, Stories, messages, groups, Marketplace listings, events, polls, photos and albums, and business or advertiser content. They work alongside our Terms and Conditions, and by using Ceylon Chat you agree to follow them.
1. Be Respectful
Treat others the way you'd want to be treated. We do not allow harassment, bullying, threats, hate speech, or content that attacks people based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, disability, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, or any other protected characteristic.
2. Zero Tolerance for Child Exploitation
We have zero tolerance for content that sexualizes, exploits, or endangers minors, including child sexual abuse material (CSAM). Any account found posting or sharing this content will be permanently banned immediately and reported to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and/or relevant law enforcement authorities, as required by law.
3. No Violence or Extremism
You may not use Ceylon Chat to promote or support terrorism, violent extremism, or organized hate. This includes glorifying violent acts, recruiting for extremist causes, or posting credible threats of violence against a person or group.
4. Authenticity
Use your real identity and be who you say you are. We do not allow fake accounts, impersonation of another person or organization, or coordinated inauthentic behavior (networks of accounts working together to mislead others). We also prohibit spam, scams, and automated abuse of the platform.
Badges are part of this. Claiming a badge you were not given — by putting a tick in your display name, in your profile picture, or anywhere else made to look like the real thing — is impersonation of Ceylon Chat itself and is treated as seriously as impersonating a person. Applying for one using somebody else's name, evidence or registration number is the same.
5. Phone Numbers and WhatsApp
Some members and businesses choose to publish a WhatsApp number, and pages carry a button to message it. A number published here is for contacting that person or business about what they are on Ceylon Chat for — nothing else.
So: do not send marketing or bulk messages to a number you found here. Do not add somebody to a WhatsApp group without asking them first. Do not collect numbers from the site, and do not pass a number on to anybody else. Do not keep messaging somebody who has asked you to stop.
Conduct in WhatsApp is outside our reach — we cannot see those messages and cannot delete them. But an account used to harass somebody through a number they published here can be suspended here, and will be. If somebody troubles you on WhatsApp, block them in WhatsApp, then report their Ceylon Chat account to us so we can act on it as well.
6. Intellectual Property
Only post content you own or have permission to share. Don't upload photos, videos, or other material that infringes someone else's copyright or trademark. If you believe your work has been posted without permission, see our DMCA / Copyright Policy for how to file a takedown notice.
7. Marketplace Rules
Marketplace is for buying and selling between real people. The following items may never be listed:
- Firearms, ammunition, explosives, and other weapons
- Illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia
- Counterfeit or replica goods
- Live animals
- Stolen goods or items obtained illegally
- Recalled, hazardous, or regulated items that require a license we do not verify
Listings that violate these rules will be removed, and repeat violations may result in loss of Marketplace access or account suspension.
8. Advertiser Content Standards
Businesses and creators running ads or sponsored content on Ceylon Chat must not target users based on protected characteristics in a discriminatory way, and may not advertise weapons, illegal substances, counterfeit goods, misleading financial or health claims, or adult content. We may reject or remove any ad at our discretion.
9. Consequences for Violations
Depending on the severity and frequency of a violation, we may issue a warning, temporarily suspend an account, remove content, or permanently ban an account. Severe violations — including CSAM, terrorism, and credible threats of violence — result in an immediate permanent ban and, where required, a report to law enforcement. Our moderation team reviews reports and enforces these Guidelines using the tools built into Ceylon Chat's admin system.
10. Report a Violation
If you see something that breaks these Guidelines, use the Report option available on posts, comments, profiles, and Marketplace listings to flag it to our moderation team. You can also block accounts you don't want to interact with from your Settings page.
