Effective date: 11 August 2026
These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) form a legal agreement between you and Ceylon Chat (“Ceylon Chat”, “we”, “us”, “our”), the social networking platform operated at ceylonchat.com. By creating an account, browsing, or otherwise using Ceylon Chat, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the platform.
1. Eligibility & Minimum Age
You must be at least 16 years old to create an account or use Ceylon Chat. This applies to every visitor and member worldwide, and specifically reflects our obligations under:
- The UK Online Safety Act 2023 and the child-safety duties it places on services likely to be accessed by children; and
- The Australian Online Safety Amendment (Social Media Minimum Age) Act 2024, which sets a minimum age of 16 for social media accounts held by Australian users.
By registering, you confirm that the information you provide is accurate and that you meet this age requirement. Under-age people cannot access this website. Accounts we reasonably believe belong to someone under 16 will be suspended or terminated, and associated content may be removed. Parents or guardians who believe a child under 16 is using Ceylon Chat should contact us immediately at support@ceylonchat.com so we can investigate and, where appropriate, close the account.
We keep this age requirement under review as UK and Australian online safety law continues to develop (including the UK’s forthcoming Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Act provisions), and we will raise it further, or add stricter verification, if required to remain compliant. We comply with these laws.
2. Your Account
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. Notify us immediately at support@ceylonchat.com if you suspect unauthorised use of your account. You may not impersonate another person, create an account on behalf of someone else without permission, or maintain more than one account for deceptive or abusive purposes.
3. Acceptable Use
When using Ceylon Chat, including in private messages, you agree not to:
- Post, share, request, solicit, or send child sexual abuse material (CSAM), or any content that sexualises, endangers, or exploits a minor;
- Post, share, or send content that promotes, incites, glorifies, or supports terrorism or violent extremism;
- Post or share content that is otherwise unlawful, defamatory, harassing, hateful, obscene, or infringes on someone else’s rights;
- Upload viruses, malware, or attempt to disrupt, hack, or overload the platform;
- Scrape, harvest, or collect data about other members without consent;
- Send spam, unsolicited advertising, or run scams or fraudulent schemes;
- Misrepresent your identity or affiliation with any person or organisation;
- Use the platform to violate any applicable local, national, or international law.
We reserve the right to remove content and suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or our Community Guidelines, at our reasonable discretion.
4. Private Messaging
Ceylon Chat includes a private messaging feature that lets members send direct messages, photos, and voice messages, and (where enabled) make calls, in a similar way to other mainstream messaging apps. Everything in Section 3 (Acceptable Use) applies fully to private conversations, not only to public posts.
To help keep messaging safe, Ceylon Chat gives members tools to:
- Control who is allowed to start a new conversation with them;
- Block another member from messaging them;
- Report a conversation or message to our moderators for review.
Messages are stored on our servers so that reported or reasonably suspected illegal content can be reviewed by our moderators and, where required by law, disclosed to law enforcement. See our Privacy Policy for details on how message data is handled and protected.
5. Zero Tolerance: Child Sexual Abuse Material & Terrorism
Ceylon Chat has a zero-tolerance policy for child sexual exploitation and abuse material (CSAM), grooming, and any content or behaviour that endangers a child, and for content that promotes, incites, glorifies, or supports terrorism or violent extremism, anywhere on the platform, including inside private messages.
Where we become aware of such content or activity, whether through a member report, our own moderation, or automated detection, we will:
- Immediately remove the content and suspend or permanently terminate the account(s) involved;
- Preserve relevant evidence as required by law; and
- Report it to the appropriate authorities, which for CSAM includes the US National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and/or relevant law enforcement in the UK, Australia, or the user’s home jurisdiction, and for terrorism-related content includes relevant law enforcement and counter-terrorism bodies.
Please use the “Report” option available on posts, profiles, groups, and messages if you see anything that may involve child exploitation or terrorism, or email us directly at support@ceylonchat.com. Reports of this kind are treated as urgent and confidential.
6. User Content and Licence
You retain ownership of the content you post on Ceylon Chat (posts, comments, photos, videos, and profile information). By posting content, you grant Ceylon Chat a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, display, reproduce, and distribute that content solely for the purpose of operating and promoting the platform. This licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except where content has been shared by other users or copies are retained for legal or backup purposes.
You are solely responsible for the content you post and confirm that you have the necessary rights to share it.
7. Business Profiles
Ceylon Chat offers an optional “Business Profile” account type for businesses, consultants, and service providers to showcase their business to the community, including a “Business” badge and inclusion in our Featured Businesses listings. If you create or maintain a Business Profile, you additionally agree that:
- All business information you submit (business name, category, phone number, address, opening hours, website, and description) is accurate, current, and belongs to a business you are authorised to represent;
- The Business Profile will only be used to represent a genuine, lawfully operating business, consultancy, or service — not to impersonate another business or to mislead members;
- Information you enter into your Business Details (such as your business name, phone number, address, and hours) is intended to be displayed publicly to other members and visitors so they can find and contact your business, and you consent to that public display;
- Ceylon Chat does not verify, endorse, or guarantee the accuracy of any Business Profile, and is not responsible for transactions, communications, goods, or services exchanged between members and businesses listed on the platform;
- Ceylon Chat may, at its reasonable discretion, decline, suspend, or remove a Business Profile’s badge, listing, or Featured Businesses placement at any time, including for inaccurate information, complaints, suspected fraud, or misuse.
Creating a Business Profile requires you to separately accept these Terms and our Privacy Policy via a confirmation checkbox before the profile can be saved.
8. Credits, Badges, and Points
Ceylon Chat may award “Credits”, badges, or similar recognition for activity on the platform (such as logging in, posting, commenting, or joining groups). Credits and badges:
- Have no cash value and cannot be exchanged, sold, transferred, or redeemed for money, goods, or services;
- Are provided for engagement and entertainment purposes only;
- May be adjusted, reset, or discontinued by Ceylon Chat at any time without notice or liability, including to correct errors or prevent abuse of the system.
9. Advertising and Third-Party Content
Ceylon Chat may display advertisements, sponsored content, or links to third-party websites. We do not control and are not responsible for the content, products, services, or privacy practices of third-party sites. Interactions with advertisers or third parties are solely between you and them.
10. Intellectual Property
The Ceylon Chat name, logo, design, and platform features (excluding user-generated content) are the property of Ceylon Chat or its licensors and may not be copied, reproduced, or used without permission.
11. Copyright Complaints
If you believe content on Ceylon Chat infringes your copyright, please contact us at support@ceylonchat.com with a description of the material and your rights in it, and we will review and take appropriate action, which may include removing the content.
12. Suspension and Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to Ceylon Chat, with or without notice, if we reasonably believe you have violated these Terms (including Sections 3 and 5), our Community Guidelines, or applicable law, or to protect the safety and integrity of the platform and its members. You may stop using Ceylon Chat and request deletion of your account at any time by contacting support@ceylonchat.com.
13. Disclaimers
Ceylon Chat is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. We do not guarantee that the platform will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure, and we make no warranties, express or implied, about the accuracy or reliability of content posted by users or businesses on the platform.
14. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Ceylon Chat and its owners, staff, and affiliates will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the platform, including any loss arising from content, Business Profile listings, or interactions with other members.
15. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time, including to reflect changes in UK, Australian, or other applicable law. We will post the revised Terms on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of Ceylon Chat after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.
16. Contact Us
If you have questions about these Terms, please contact us at support@ceylonchat.com.
Please also review our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy, which explain how we collect, use, and protect your personal information, including messaging data.
