Business directory

List your business where the community is already looking

A free page for your business on Ceylon Chat — your address, opening hours, services and photos, published in a form both people and search engines can read properly.

What your page actually does

The page is built for search engines to read

Your page is rendered on our server, so the first thing a crawler receives already contains your name, address, opening hours and description as real text. Most of Ceylon Chat renders in the browser; business pages deliberately do not, because these are the pages meant to be found.

Your details are published as structured data

Everything you enter is also published in schema.org format — the vocabulary Google, Bing and others use to understand what a business is. That is what makes a listing eligible to appear with your hours, phone number and location rather than as a plain blue link.

Nothing is left orphaned

Your page is linked from the directory, from your category page and from your town, and it is listed in our sitemap with the date you last updated it. A page nothing links to is one a crawler may never visit.

Consistency you can carry everywhere

Search engines cross-check a business by its name, address and phone number across the web. Entering them here exactly as they appear on your other listings strengthens all of them at once — including your Google Business Profile.

A checklist that tells you why, not just what

The editor scores your page out of 100 and explains what each missing piece does. It is the same advice an SEO consultant charges for, applied to the one page you are filling in.

Reviews that a customer can believe

Customers review your page from real accounts, one each, and you reply in public. You cannot delete a review and neither will we on request — which is exactly why the good ones on your page count for something. There is an appeal route for reviews that genuinely break the rules, decided by a person against a published list.

Verification people can see

Once published, we can check your address and phone number and mark the page verified. Verified pages sit above unverified ones in the directory, and the badge tells a visitor a person checked this, not a robot.

What we will not promise you

  • We cannot guarantee you a top result. No one honestly can. Where a page ranks depends on how competitive your area and trade are, and on how much authority a domain has built up. Anyone who guarantees you page one is selling you something.
  • Rankings take months, not days. A new page has to be found, crawled and trusted before it competes for anything.
  • This does not replace your Google Business Profile. For local searches, that listing still matters most, and it is free. Claim it if you have not. A page here works alongside it — a second consistent listing, and one you control the wording of.
  • We will not delete honest bad reviews. Not for you, not for anyone, at any price. Since April 2025 suppressing genuine reviews has been illegal in the UK — and a directory where criticism quietly disappears is one no customer has any reason to believe, which would make your good reviews worthless too. You get a public right of reply, and an appeal route for reviews that actually break the rules. How reviews work
  • The quality is on you. A page with two lines and no photos will not rank however good the markup is. The score in the editor exists because the details are the part that decides this.

Getting the most out of it

  1. Write your name, address and phone number exactly as they appear on your other listings — character for character, including the postcode format.
  2. Write a real description of at least a few sentences. Say what you sell, who you serve and where. Thin pages do not rank, and nor do pages of keywords.
  3. Fill in all seven days of opening hours, closed days included.
  4. List your services the way a customer would say them — "Sri Lankan wedding catering", not "catering solutions".
  5. Add your own photos. Not stock ones; people can tell, and it costs you the sale.
  6. Link your page from your own website and social profiles. Links are still how a page earns trust.
