What you need before you start

Your name
The name friends will recognise. You can change it later.
An email address
One account per email address. We send your verification code here.
A password
At least 8 characters. Longer is safer — a short phrase works well.
Your date of birth
You must be at least 13 years old to use Ceylon Chat.
A phone number
Optional. Adds an extra layer of security and lets you use SMS login codes.

Sign up step by step

  1. 1Go to ceylonchat.com and tap Sign up (or open /register directly).
  2. 2Type your full name — this is what people see on your posts.
  3. 3Enter your email address. Use one you can open right now, because your verification code goes there.
  4. 4Choose a password of 8 characters or more, then read and tick the box for the Terms, Privacy Policy and Community Guidelines.
  5. 5Enter your date of birth and tap Create account.
  6. 6You land on the verification screen with your account already created and signed in.
Your username is created for you from your email address — for example maria.perera@example.com becomes @mariaperera. If that username is taken, a number is added. You cannot choose your own username at sign-up.

Verify your email

  1. 1Check your inbox for a message from Ceylon Chat with a 6-digit code.
  2. 2Type the code on the verification screen and tap Verify.
  3. 3If nothing arrives within a minute, check your spam or junk folder, then tap Resend code.
Code length
6 digits
How long it lasts
10 minutes, then you need a new one
Resending
Up to 3 codes per minute
Is it compulsory?
You can use the site without verifying, but a verified email is how you get back in if you forget your password.

Signing up with Google or Facebook

The Continue with Google and Continue with Facebook buttons on the login page create your account in one step, and your email is treated as already verified. If you started with a password and later use Google with the same email address, you land in the same account.
