What happens to your picture

Every upload is checked to make sure it really is a picture, turned the right way up using the camera's rotation information, shrunk if it is very large, and saved again at high quality. Hidden information such as GPS location, camera model and timestamps is removed, so a photo you took at home does not reveal your address.

iPhone photos

iPhones often save pictures as HEIC, which we cannot accept. In your iPhone Settings go to Camera, then Formats, and choose Most Compatible so new photos are saved as JPG. For a photo you already have, open it in Photos, tap Edit and then Done, or send it to yourself in a chat app and save the copy — both produce a JPG.
