Copyright and takedown policy

Everything posted on Ceylon Chat is uploaded by the person who posted it. We host it; we do not review it before it appears and we do not claim ownership of it. If something here infringes your copyright, tell us using the form below and we will deal with it.

Who is responsible for content

The member who uploads content is responsible for it. By posting, they confirm they own the rights or have permission, and they agree to cover Ceylon Chat for any claim brought because of what they posted. Our role is to run a process for taking infringing material down once we know about it — which is what this page is.

What we remove, and how much

We remove what the notice identifies, and no more:

One photo in a post of several. Only that photo comes down. The rest of the post, and the words with it, stay up. Removing five photos because one infringes takes down four lawful ones.
The whole post. Only when the post itself is the infringement — copied text, or every image in it.
A profile or cover picture. Cleared on its own, without touching the account.
A whole account. Never for a single notice. Only under the repeat infringer rule below.

Whoever posted it is told what was removed and why, and can dispute it.

Repeat infringers

Each upheld notice is a strike against the account. Three strikes and the account is suspended. This is applied, not just written down.

Filing a notice

Use the form below. A notice has to identify the work, identify the material here, give us a way to reach you, and carry two sworn statements — those are the elements that make it actionable, and the form asks for each one. Knowingly making a false claim of infringement carries legal consequences, including liability for the other side's costs. Only file this about work you own or are authorised to act for.

Paste the exact link to the post or image. If several items infringe, send one notice per item so we remove only what you have identified.

Disputing a removal

If your content came down and you believe that was wrong — you took the photo, you have a licence, or it is not the work described — send a counter-notice using the second tab above. We pass it to whoever complained. If they do not tell us within about two weeks that they have started a court case, the material may go back up.

Abuse of this process

Filing a notice you know to be false is unlawful and can make you liable for the costs of the person whose content you had removed. We keep every notice on record.

Trade marks and counterfeits

Counterfeit goods and listings that infringe a trade mark are not allowed on Marketplace. Report them the same way, or with the Report option on the listing.
