Friends and followers

The difference between the two, sending requests, and tidying your lists.

About 4 minutes to read

Friends and followers are not the same

Friend
Both people agree. Friends can see posts you share with Friends.
Follower
One direction. Someone follows you to see your public posts — no approval needed, and they do not see your Friends-only posts.

Add a friend

  1. 1Find the person using search, or open their profile from a post.
  2. 2Tap Add friend. The button changes to Request sent.
  3. 3When they accept, you both appear in each other's Friends list and Friends-only posts become visible.
  4. 4To take a request back before it is accepted, tap Cancel request.
If you see "This user isn't accepting friend requests from you", they have set their account to accept requests only from friends of friends, or from no one.

Answer requests

  1. 1Open Friends from the menu.
  2. 2Requests waiting for you are listed at the top with Accept and Decline.
  3. 3Declining does not tell the other person.

Remove people

Unfriend
Open their profile and tap Friends, then Unfriend. They are not told.
Remove a follower
Open your followers list and tap Remove next to their name.
Unfollow
Open their profile and tap Following to stop following them.
Block
Cuts contact completely — see Privacy, blocking and who can reach you.
